The Longest Time

Alright so its been a while folks. We apologize for the long break in between posts but G has been out in the bush frolicking around and planting trees and I have been in Panorama having the time of my life. BUT... now we BOTH ARE!!!!!!

Yes, thats right G has moved to Pano for the rest of the summer. Only days after the end of the planting season in Northern Alberta a short riding visit turned into a semi perminant working vacation. Thanks to my awesomeness i hooked up the G man with a job at Lusti's with me and he gets to stay and shred the mountain for a whole month. The longest time we have been able to hang out since first year at Waterloo!

So this is going to be a double post. I guess I'll start off.

So my last month has been an absolute shit show!

On a side note....

Jay is currently going to the bar for a few drinks, and I, Graham can't be bothered, so I am now continuing to write on his behalf. So, anyway, no new music for the time being from my behalf being in the bush = no new tunes. But ill be back up on that shit come September (and hopefully back to posting on here on a somewhat regular basis.

We have a pretty frequent schedule of heavy drinking, early morning work and afternoon downhill runs and today was no exception and we even took a camera out with us as well. So anyway, we did a quickie PS job on some sequence shots we took today which actually turned out pretty sick. The first one is of me and obviously the second is of Jay (The rock hes gapping is actually probably close to a ten foot gap) and in my sequence I was riding at a fairly ridiculous speed.

Week One

Alrighty folks so I've been in BC for a week and so far its been pretty amazing. I spent the first few days in my room sleeping and just relaxing. Took a few walks around the resort but other then that kept it pretty low key.
On Sunday Dani, who lives aacross the hall from me came and got me to come down to the fire pit. Met some people that night, had a few beers and called it a night. On Monday I went down to Employee Experience to hand in all my forms and as it turns out I started work as well.
So for the summer I'll be working with Tom from Nova Scotia. He rode his motorcycle all the way here and plans on taking it all the way home at the end of the summer.
So Day 1
Sean lets us into the shop at 9am, says build bikes and fix bikes and leaves.
Repeat for the rest of the week. No supervision what-so-ever. This place is awesome. No boss breathing down your neck, no deadline, just make sure its done sometime and hopefully its done right!
Well its finally the weekend so its time to party!

The Mission to the Mountain

SO hears the deal. Yesterday I documented the different stages of my day and have complied them into this… ENJOY!

Goodbye Ontario
So right now it is like 6:30 am on June 12th and I’m sitting in the Hamilton Ariport waiting for my flight to board in like 15 minutes. I tried to eat breakfast but that wasn’t happening. Way to many things going through my head right now. Like seriously, I’m leaving all my friends to go somewhere I know absolutely no one (until Whit and Katie get out here…HURRY!!) but I also know this is going to be one hell of an adventure!
Well Time to board the plane… catch you guys from the Left Coast!

Alright… time for entry numero deux!
So I’m sitting on the plane on the way to Calgary and I can’t help but notice this stupid little screen in front of me. The damn thing says I’m going 487mph at 40125ft. Wow I wish my car could go that fast. Speaking of cars, I noticed that gas hit a buck even today; glad I’m not going to be around to pay for that shit!
This is also the best flight I’ve ever been on. My mom was nice enough to pay the extra 15 bucks of my flight so I could sit in the emergency row. I chose the window seat, which means that I’m pretty much sitting in a lounge chair. NO seat in front of me at all! Its great, especially with my gangly legs!
I can’t see ay mountains out the window yet but I’m going to assume by the little map thingy that tells me how fast we are going I should start to see them shortly. I’m going to have to make friends with the mountains because, well, for a bit I’m not going to have anyone else to talk to…

Arrival…
So I got into Calgary about 20 minutes early and the weather is amazing. I found some wireless Internet in the airport but not enough to make a post. The bus ride to Banff was interesting. I’m pretty sure my driver had some sort of weird twitch because he kept nodding his hear erratically. The bus I was on could have taken about 20-25 people. However, there was only one other guy who works in fort McMurry and goes to Banff to see his girl friend on his days off. He was pretty entertaining. His terrible grammar and failure to pluralize most of his words was mildly entertaining. Anyway… I finally got into the mountains. Banff is a wicked little town and sooooooo amazingly beautiful.


Lunch Time
So it is like 2:15 (4:15 for you folks to the east) here in Banff and I’m sitting at a nice little bar enjoying a Kokanee and burger. I’ve spent a few hours here in Banff and so far and all I can say s that it is amazing here. Surrounded by a bunch of mountains, the main street, Banff Ave, is packed with people and it is a beautiful day. I was surprised to find a street wear store that carries a lot of the same stuff we do at loop. But, loop is way better atmosphere and set up (yea I’m tooting my own horn). Well it looks like about time to sit and enjoy this delicious beer and burger. Next stop… Panorama!

Bus to Invermere
Ok so I lied! The next stop isn’t Panorama. I have to make a stop in Invermere. Right now I’m on the bus on my way there from Banff. I seriously don’t have the vocabulary to describe the scenery. The roads are lined with mountains. Some snowcapped and grey, others green, some both! A lot of mountains around here are scarred with the signs of forest fire. All the tall trees are wilted and grey while other much smaller trees are bright green and full of life. It’s a pretty amazing contrast seeing them side-by-side. All right folks time for my first shout out. It goes to the one and only Mr. Tyler Bowa. Being the best photographer I personally know I wish you were here to capture a rainbow with snowcapped mountains behind it. I couldn’t even get a decent picture with my camera through the bus window but Mr. Bowa could have made it a masterpiece. Well my mission is getting closer to an end. I’ll keep you posted!

In Pano!
Holy Crap finally here! So I saw a bear and a family on mountain goats on the side of the road, which was super cool! I’m currently sitting in my kitchen of the place I’ll be living for the next 10ish weeks. It was still light when I got here but I haven’t had a chance to explore. I’m so tired… all I want to do is sleep. I just want to make sure I get this done so I can post it on the interweb in the morning. Alright… time to unpack my sheets and blanket and get some rest… FINALLY! Oh yea its 1:10am in Ontario…

So we have once again failed to update this blog on the regular. Now that summer is in full swing I promise this will no longer be an occurrence. So here is an update in the lives of J&G.

So Graham came for a visit to Waterloo last weekend. It was pretty sweet seeing him again. Needless to say it was two days of shit shows finished off with 7/11 hot dogs smothered in chili and cheese! G is now somewhere up north planting trees and trying to pick up hippie girls. So it will be a few months until we meet again!

As for myself I am so happy that all i have to do is work for the summer. Its my first term off since summer after 2nd year (wow). So for the next month or so until I move I'm just doing the loop and bomber thing. Selling dope cloths and kicking out drunk people. (ok shameless plug time) LOOP has lots of new spring gear for guys and girls! Come see me Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays!

ALSO! I got a new cell phone! YAY! I picked up a Blackberry Storm about three weeks ago. Yea, thats right, I have a better phone then you do! Actually... it just looks cool. After getting used to the touch screen for a few weeks I keep wishing it was more sensitive. Its sometimes is frustrating editing my texts when it won't let me select a certain letter I want to change. Other then that its pretty fun. I downlaoded the AppStore and somes sweet games!

Anyway... thats about all thats new in my life. Maybe G will update if he can find a computer in the middle of buttfucknowhere!

Holy Shit its been a week since either myself or G had been able to post anything. This can be due to one of two things.
1) lots of sex
2) exams

Now as much as numero uno should be the answer, it sadly is not. Exams and papers have been the death of both of us. For an entire week I couldn't think of anything but Medieval knights and tournaments. But, now that is all behind me for 4.5 months. 3 of which will be spent in Panorama! I can't wait. for now I'm just Chillin- Wale

G's 15 Essential Albums.

If you don't have them. Please do, even if you don't think you will like them or have some sort of misconception about them. Some are new (within two years) and one goes back to the 80s *smiths*. I have put in two albums from both M83 and Why? as I when I was listening to them deciding which one to put in this list, well, I couldn't decide, and I felt that if I left one out, I would instead be putting a worse album in this list for the sake of not having repeated artists.

Think about this list in this regard. A few of these albums I haven't listened to in a few months, but the fact is, if I was going to be stranded somewhere and I could only have 15 albums...these would still be them.

While these days, my music taste may vary broadly, and I do have some music snobicidal (yeah, I just made a word. what what!) tendencies, there still are some main stream albums which will always strike a chord within me (pun intended).

Anyway. These are albums that I like every song on, not just one track. I have some songs in my library that individually may be as strong or stronger than many tracks on these albums, but the album in its entirety probably wasn't up to snuff.

Work, Work, Drink, Concert...

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while. I've been working a lot. And when I haven't been at work, I have been doing an excellent job of neglecting my studies by drinking, mostly with Moose (my roomate).

I went to see the Arkells play at Laurier on Thursday which was pretty fun. They put on a good show for everyone and I ended up being way to drunk for my own good.

And... Katey was kind enough to go on line and actually buy the tickets for Steve Aoki, MSTRKRFT, Bloody Beatroots and Crookers in Toronto April 9th! Im super pumped for that. Probably the best $50 bucks I will ever spend on a concert ticket!

Bloc Party are back at the Remixs

I'm a fan of Bloc Party. But moreso, I am a fan of their Remix albums. The original one they did for Silent Alarm, was in my opinion, far better than the actual album. So I just got wind of the fact that the Remix album for Intimacy drops on May 9th I think. Let's hope they feature Remix artists such as M83, Four Tet and Mogwai again. Another creepy video for you guys, ill try not and make a habit of it...

VW Love

Ok so as many of you know I drive a Volkswagen Golf. I also have a huge love for anything high performance and Volkswagen. So when i stumbled upon this VW concept Car about a year ago I couldn't help but fall in love.
This is the VW GTI W12. It has a 650HP engine. The rest of the main components are stole from other cars of VW subsiduaries such as Bently, Lambourgini and Audi. 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds and looks like pure sex!
To bad they will never put it into production :(

G's Edit: This will hit our shores in production form. Do want. 270HP 4 wheel drive. And somewhat affordable.

Two things to get stoked about.

One of my favourite bands of 2007, Silversun Pickups, just released their first single off their album due next month. They have said that the album is both really heavy and super mellow. And dare I say from this track (and numerous others as of late) that 'grunge' is on its way back? Either way, I am stoked as shit on this song.

Without further ado, I happily present to those girls we pissed off yesterday...

In contrastto the "Waterloo's Guide to Girls", Stef and myself, Alex, have decided to write "Waterloo's Guide to Guys". Please do not take offense, especially if you read this and think, "Well a lot of that is me but I'm not REALLY like that".. or if you realize, "Shit, they hit me bang on.." We know not everyone falls into a mold, though most of us, Stef and myself included, can compare to some of the characteristics (not all) of some of the girls that Jay has decided to describe (and Graham agreed with), thus most likely some guys will fit ours as well.

I can think of many more types of guys to add to this list, but these are the main ones;

The Bro. (also commonly known as "Frat Boy")
Description: If their backwards trucker hats, and birkenstocks don't give them away, then it's their "graphic logo" Abercrombie, American Eagle and Hollister tees. They sometimes wear necklaces, either with a shark's tooth on it, or some sort of 'dog' tag, usually purchased at the same store as their logo tees. By day you can find them staggering, late, to class. Usually with stubbled facial hair, and tired eyes from their night of beer pong, flip cup and funnelling with other 'bros' the night prior. They have been known to wear sweatpants with socks and sandals.. or.. even crocs (that's right, those hideous coloured plastic shoes made to be worn by 6 year olds). Just by the fact that they buy their jeans already ripped and their hat brims already tattered attracts other bros to them. Their hair is usually short to a bit of a shag. Colours vary, but it doesn't really matter, because they are never seen without their hats anyways. Their form of dressing up is to throw on polo, or button up shirt: Popped Collar a must. They carry around their Blackberrys to keep track of the plans their bros all have for the evening, and the 'bitties' they're trying to 'wheel'. They often refer to girls at 'broads' and 'bitties' to their fellow bros, yet to girls they're most likely use pet names to keep girls straight, most commonly used name: 'babe'.
Hangouts: Fox, Caesars, McMullens, Duke, Wilfs, Bomber, Philthies, Spur, House parties.. basically anywhere there are drunk girls, you'll find "Bros". They love anywhere that is licensed to serve alcohol.
Ease of Pickup: High-- as long as you have boobs, you're in.
Preferred Girl: Preppy/Woooo Girls (more commonly known as "Laurier girls")
Chance of Relationship: slim to none, they're all out to 'get ass' and 'wheel' and if you do get one to buckle down.. they'll cheat.
Hotness: 7.5-10/10
Tips: wear a low cut dress/shirt, and tell them you love to funnel.

The Jock.
Description: Similar to the Bro, yet the main difference is, these guys actually play sports. Not just Ultimate Frisbee or road hockey like a Bro. These guys use their 'team' status to get them in girls pants, even if they're only bench warmers. They wear varsity jackets a lot, some even have team rings. Can be spotted at the Laurier gym, or tossing around a football anywhere girls will see them. They are easily aggravated, especially with alcohol in their system. They have no problem starting fights, especially with members of opposing teams, they think girls find it sexy. It's not rare to see them with a new girl each week, or juggling more than one girl at once. They like to make girls think they don't sleep around.. but we all know they do. NO ONE is that naive.
Hangouts: Campus bars, Philthies, Fox... really anywhere they play sports, and serve wings and beer.
Ease of Pickup: Extremely High, since you'll only be a one night thing anyways.
Preferred girl: Jersey Chasers
Chance of Relationship: Low, they all cheat, and can't commit for longer than 2 weeks.
Hotness: 7-10/10.. (Though sometimes 5/10 face and 10/10 body).
Tips: Tell them you love whatever sport they play, but you especially love to 'wrestle'. Editors note: a dumb guys dream

The Normal Guy.
Description: This is the guy that all girls want. But is nearly impossible to find and when you do, he's either in a serious, long term relationship, or is 'too focused' on his life to enter into a serious relationship at the moment. This guy is not cocky, yet modest, but is probably one of the easy to get along with guys you'll ever meet. He doesn't hit on girls in front of you at the bar, or leave you as soon as a cute girl walks past; he genuinely wants to get to know you better. Instead of asking you home at the end of the night, he asks if he can call you later that week to grab dinner or see a movie, actually take you on a REAL date, not just a booty call. He becomes your friend, yet a love interest. He attends class and cares about what his friends and family think, yet knows how to have a good time, but isn't a borderline alcoholic. He can stay in on a Friday night and be totally content just being with you, yet you can party together and he doesn't start fights or get jealous if you go out without him or wear a hot dress.

The Band boy.
Description: This boy is often referred to as an "Indie" boy, because not all these boys are actually in bands, so their label can be controversial. But if in fact they are in a band, it gives them advantage over the rest, because girls love men who are musically inclined. These boys can be spotted in hip, chic stores like Urban Outfitters and American Apparel, they are a fan of the Deep-V tees, tight to just form fitting jeans, hoodies and cardigans. They are fashionable and enjoy a good Nike high-tops shoe, or Vans slip-ons. They prefer either the 'greasy' hair look, or the fashionable mullet/fohawk. (Ed. Note: both mullets and fohawks are completely gay, and I disagree that they fit in this genre) Sometimes they like to wear beanies (wool hats). They have good taste in music and you can rely on them for solid underground beats you've most likely never heard of before, but you end up loving. They're usually fairly skinny and tall. Brown to very dark hair. Notable for their thick black framed glasses, and Ray Ban sunglasses in the summertime. They usually attend parties and bars for the music, and they are fairly shy when it comes to hitting on girls. There are many subgroups of the "band boy", most common one.. the "emo boy". or the "punk boy". But these boys don't usually hit the bar seen, they are more about local shows. The Emo boy is different with their tighter than life pants, and straightened black hair that covers 95.6% of their face.
Hangouts: Phils on Electronight, and Starlight
Ease of Pickup: Low to High
Preferred Girl: Fashionista/ Indie Girl
Chance of Relationship: Medium to High
Hotness: 5-10/10
Tips: Know your shit, aka your music. (and dress well)

The Gino.
Description: These boys can also be known as the boys around the bar and just wait til a girl is drunk enough and dancing with her friends, then they swoon in and start grinding the girl from behind. Basically, they are creeps. They are known to wear tinted sunglasses inside. Their hair is perfectly spiked with about half a bottle of gel, and a spritz of hairspray. If you had to compare them to cartoon characters, they would resemble ones seen on Dragonball Z (if you remember that show). If you see a couple who looks like they're having sex on the dance floor, it's probably the case that the Gino has found the drunkest girl in the bar so she cannot say 'no' to his borderline harassment dance moves. They are all about Jagger Bombs and getting 'fucked up'. (For reference please refer to the youtube video: My New Haircut)
Hangouts: Caesars, 140 West, Vault
Ease of Pickup: Easy .. but you don't really want to pick these guys up.
Preferred Girl: Girls in general (preferably incoherent).

The Dick.
Description: When you see him out and about you think.. "Fuck, not him again". He walks into the bar like everyone there is beneath him and he is God's gift to women. But what he doesn't seem to get is.. no one wants him around, and girls do not find his rudeness attractive, and when they act disgusted they're not just pretending, they genuinely do not like this guy. He isn't always bad looking, and he can have a charming smile, though as soon as he opens his opinionated mouth, you wish you'd never begun a conversation. He's loud and when he drinks he gets moody, and complains about everything and everyone. The following is an essential guide for men in Waterloo. This guide will enable you to choose which bar to go to in order to find a specific type of girl. I will outline the different types of girls our diverse city has to offer and their preferred watering holes.

Woooooo Girls!
Description: If not for the fact that there are two Universities in Waterloo this could be classified simply as The Laurier Girl. By day they disguise them selves in Uggs, with grey track pants (most say Laurier on the butt or one leg) and a colourful TNA hoodie. They also wear oversized sunglasses to hide their face from those who may see them at night . Their hair will most likely be very blonde or very dark. Nothing in between!! By night they are totally different creatures. Shimmery outfits and heels are standard attire. Straight hair with extensions and some sort of up do are also standard. Hidden in their Coach clutch purse is their Blackberry which will most certainly have a bright coloured silicon skin, usually pink, which seems to keep it permanently attached to their hand.
Hangouts- Caesars all the time, 140west, Vault, Fubar, Philthies, Can be Seen at Bomber and Laurier bars as well (look for Jocks then move eyes 8 inches lower).

Description: Pretty much the same as above with one major fdifference… As the name implies these kind of girls love the jock! She will do anything and everything to sleep with members of varsity sports teams. It doesn’t even matter what sport they play, put on the Warrior or Golden Hawk jersey and your getting laid!

Normal Girl
Description: This is the girl that every guy looks for. Nothing fancy here. Dresses well, attends class, but knows how to have a good time. They don’t wear skirts in January because it’s ‘cute’, they wear jeans because it’s fucking cold out. These girls are easy to talk to, easy on the eyes and don’t laugh stupidly when they don’t understand what your drunk ass is talking about, they question it. However, there is one major problem with this type of girl. She most likely has a boyfriend, therefore, totally ruining any chance you have of bringing this girl home at the end of the night, or even getting her number.

Lil’ Hipster Girl
Description: This girl knows how to push the limits of fashion and music. Loves to rock out to the latest electro jam in her bright colours, skinny jeans and dunks. Her hair is probably chopped in a very different yet attractive way. Beware, at the bar this girl will be wasted. Totally off the wall and having an amazing time. If you can in fact, get a chance to talk to her she’s pretty cool. Good taste in music (according to this blog), which means a varied sampling of all genres with a focus on anything ‘indie’.

Hippie Chick
Description: This girl can be found in the ES buildings at UW. Probably a head full of dreads, second hand cloths and patchouli sent which follows her everywhere. She likes ot have fun but mostly hang out with her own kind. Not the easiest to talk to sometimes but few are known to incessantly pester you for the entire night. They love the environment and tree plant every summer. Now this is in no way a bad thing. The Hippie chick has a very wide range on the hotness scale, which leaves room for absolutely amazingly beautiful girls.

Opinionated Bitch
Description: This girl gets dragged out by her friends or class mates once or twice a term. She thinks every day she is going to the office and dresses like it. Very clean cut and proper at all times. She will stand in the corner with one drink all night and form opinions about everyone at the bar. If you try and talk to her you will be forced to her how inadequate you and everyone else at the bar is and when she is the first female Emperor of the World you will be imprisoned and alcohol will be illegal.
Hangouts- Campus Bars… they don’t ever leave school
Ease of Pickup- Very Hard
Preferred Guy- Student Government
Chance of relationship- Low… but why would you want too?

A New Backpack... Just Incase

Seeing as my new Macbook is so amazing I thought it would be wise to invest in some sort of protection. As with many things in my life that need protecting, I thought a bag to be the best form of protection. Unlike most of the bags I have used in the past this on isn't thin or clear, but awesome nonetheless.

Incase seems to make the best accessories for all things Apple so I decided to go with the Incase Nylon backpack. It has a very simple and clean look (I went with black) and is aesthetically pleasing. There is a small front pocket and two larger main compartments. The two large ones are full of mesh pockets to keep all your gear organzied but still have more then enough room for textbooks, cloths, beer ect.

The top of the bag features a nicely lined iPod/camera/blackberry pockets with a headphone hole. The standout feature in my mind is the incredibly soft laptop pocket. I have never felt a fabric so soft as the the one which Incase used. There is no way anything is going to happen to my Macbook in the heavenly pocket! There are also plenty of straps to keep it on your back and two nifty pouches which sit right on your hips.

Overall this bag is awesome. However it is an investment... at $130 its not the cheapest bag on the market but well was well worth it to make sure my new baby is safe an sound at all times!

Snow, Shoes and Sound.

First and foremost, losing an hour of sleep sucks. Especially when you are sleep deprived.

So, after a perfectly clear past few days, the snow really started coming down late this afternoon. If snow could come down torrentialy (I know, not a word), that's what it was doing. Wasn't sticking to the ground too much, but that's gotta be due to the insanely nice weather as of late. C'mon Spring.

Secondly, while Jay is fussing about his Kanye shoes, I am going to pay far more interest to these Nike's designed for street cycling (fixies and road bikes using toe clips). They are the City Tiempo and they've got a stiffer sole and some reinforced areas. I had a pair of these when I was really young for indoor soccer as that was their original use before they were just revamped for this purpose.

Thirdly, These are the Nixon Wire headphones and while I have never had any issues with Nixon products before, but don't buy these, they are lame. Sure, they have great build quality,look the part and are backed up by decent sized drivers, but in order to get any type of bass response you have to have them jammed so far into your ears it is uncomfortable, and then they still fall out. Clearly I am not a fan.

On the other hand, everybody has a pair of SkullCandy's these days, and there is a reason for that, if you don't own a pair, do yourself a favour and join the trend, they definitely have the best sound and bang for your buck in this price range.

I have yet to try Nixon's newly released DJ style headphones, so I will hold my judgment on those. In the meantime, these Grado SR80s I have had for over a year now, may not be the prettiest nor the comfiest, but the sound they output is head over heals beyond anything else I have used that is under $200.

Lastly, the Cure are still kickin' it after all these years. Check it. The Cure - Only One.

So the wonderful world of Twitter has lead me to stumble across the coolest custom bike I've seen in a long time. World renowned artist Kaws has done a custom paint job for none other then Lance Armstrong. Lance will use his new bike at Milan-San Remo (big bike race) which is fast approaching! Bar Review: 140West Waterloo

So last night was my first experience at 140west in Waterloo. Going into it i expected a Caesars type vibe with over priced drinks, smelly Ginos and slow drink service. However, i was pleasantly surprised. First off I seemed to know everyone that worked there which meant no line for me and the girls I was with, and someone to talk to when I didn't feel like dancing. Despite cover being 5 dollars it was a good time. I got drinks pretty quickly, it was so packed that one couldn't move around the bar and the crowd seemed pretty decent. As usual I was the most underdressed person at the bar. I hate dressing up for so called 'upscale' bars. So my tightish jeans and nomis crew allowed me to feel comfortable but still slightly different then everyone else.

Now for what everyone wants to know... there were a bunch of hotties out last night which always adds to the evening!

Overall I give 140west a 4/5 and I will most likely be going back in the near future!

I'm just going to rub in the fact that I will be copping these shoes on April 2nd. May I present the Nike Air Yeezy. Inspired by Kayne west himself and on my feet soon...
